What the agent is told
This is the skill's SKILL.md, exactly what Metaphor reads before the task.
Teach the agent a specialized workflow by writing a SKILL.md pack. Skills are markdown files with YAML frontmatter.
Before you begin
Ask the user (one question is enough):
- Purpose — what task should this skill own?
- Location — personal (
~/.metaphor/skills/) or project (.metaphor/skills/)? - When to apply — auto-discover vs slash/mention only?
Where to write
| Kind | Path |
|---|---|
| Personal | ~/.metaphor/skills/<skill-id>/SKILL.md |
| Project | .metaphor/skills/<skill-id>/SKILL.md |
Never write into the @metaphor/skills package tree or any skills-metaphor / npm builtin directory. Those are shipped packs.
Do not write Cursor paths (~/.cursor/skills, .cursor/skills). Metaphor is .metaphor.
Frontmatter
Required:
---
name: skill-id
description: One line the agent uses to decide when this skill applies
---
Optional Cursor-compatible keys:
disable-model-invocation: true— slash (/skill-id) and@skill:skill-idonly; omit fromlist_skillsenvironments: [local]— only load in those environmentsdisabled-environments: [cloud]— never load therekeywords: [tag, other]
name must match the directory id: lowercase letters, digits, hyphens (max 64).
Body
Keep the body actionable: when to use, required order, output shape, and what not to invent. Point at repo files instead of pasting essays.
After writing
Confirm the path. Tell the user they can run /<skill-id> or @skill:<skill-id> to force-activate it.

It is built into Metaphor. Type /create-skill in the composer, or describe the task and the agent loads the skill when it fits.
What is a skill?
A skill is a set of written instructions the agent reads before it starts a kind of task. It changes how the agent works, not what it is allowed to do.
